AutoBiography

After graduating from Ateneo de Manila High School in 1956, I studied at the Ateneo de Manila College of Arts and Sciences as a Pre-Med Major. I was very involved in two of Fr. James B. Reuter’s extracurricular activities, the Glee Club and the Drama Club.

After college I found that a career in Medicine was not to my liking. I taught for three years in Xavier School, Little Baguio, as Instructor in Speech and Drama. Afterwards I worked as Production Manager in Fr. Reuter’s studios in Xavier House, Sta. Ana. It was Fr. Reuter who recommended me for training at the Catholic Radio and Television Centre, Hatch End, Middlesex, England (the media training arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales). Afterwards I studied in Leeds University on England where I obtained my Bachelor of Education degree with First Class Honours. I then returned to Hatch End where eventually I became Head of Training after my production courses at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London. I worked at the Centre where my courses included both home-based and overseas students.

In 1990 I decided to come back to the Philippines. I then worked in the Communication Department of the Ateneo de Manila University as a member of the faculty. It was during my time at the Ateneo when I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Communication and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. In 2003 I transferred to St. Paul University in Quezon City where I was appointed Program Director. In 2006-2007 I worked as part-time faculty in Miriam College, where I became fulltime in 2007-2008. While in St. Pail I was in charge of producing a weekly drama anthology series called “Sa Ngalan ng Ama” to be aired on the Dream Satellite TV Network of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

I have done media training courses and radio and video productions for the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (particularly for its Department of Non Formal Education), for the Commission on Higher Education, for Seameo-Innotech (SouthEast Asian Ministers of Education Organization-Innovations in Technology), and for the Nokia-Aid’s “Text to Teach” project which was funded by US-Aid. I was also resource person for Unicef-sponsored project to teach radio programming courses for children and the youth from all over the Philippines.
